Oil Bottles
Buy bundle (0 videos) Oil Bottles

Bottles are a great way to practice control at the wheel while exploring taller forms, narrow necks, and stronger shape changes. In this course, you’ll learn how to throw, trim, alter, and glaze a variety of bottle forms, from a soft bellied bottle to shapes with more defined angles.

We’ll begin by throwing a bellied bottle, working on collaring the neck, and making a trimming chuck to support the form later in the course. From there, you’ll learn how to trim a bottle with a narrow opening, refine a lightweight form, and use the foot to support and enhance the overall shape.

As the course continues, we’ll move into bottles with stronger angle changes, explore alternate neck styles, and make a straight-sided bottle. In the final making week, you’ll learn how to alter and trim an angled bottle to create a larger form that is both comfortable to hold and pleasant to pour from.

In the final week, we’ll glaze the bottles and talk through how to finish forms with narrow openings, including ways to glaze the inside of a pot that is more difficult to reach.

This course is a great fit for potters who want to build confidence with taller forms, collar narrow necks, and create bottles that feel both functional and refined.

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Collar a narrow neck

  • Create three different bottle forms

  • Make and use a trimming chuck

  • Trim a lightweight bottle

  • Alter a larger bottle for comfort and function
