Kilns: Loading, Firing, and Building Confidence in Your Studio
Learning to fire your own work is an exciting step toward greater independence in the studio, and this class is designed to help you feel more confident every step of the way. Whether you are getting your first kiln or simply want a better understanding of how electric kilns work, this course gives you a clear and approachable place to start.
In this class, Ruthie will teach you how to load and fire an electric kiln, understand the different types of electric kilns available, prepare and use kiln furniture, and clean glaze drips from shelves. Along the way, you will also learn how to make and apply kiln wash, make cone packs, and feel more comfortable with the firing process through a walkthrough of five different electric kiln controllers.
We have also included the recording of the live class from this course. During the live class, Ruthie demonstrates how to make cookies to help protect kiln shelves, the varied results you can have from glazes fired at different rates and answered questions from members.
This course is designed to give you a strong foundation and help you feel more confident, capable, and independent as you begin firing your own work.
